Here is my first California Girl Granny Square finished up. I opted to use the cut triangles rather than attach a bunch of squares around and then have all that waste to be cut away. I am loving the bright colors of this Fig Tree line of fabric and, of course, she had me at the name - since I spent the majority of my life in California. I had only purchased one jelly roll and then two coordinating prints and a solid coral. Turns out that was perfect for this Granny Square Block that has been popping up all over Blogland.
Definately had to lay the block out to make sure I was putting those triangles in the correct orientation and then figured out the best way to press the seams so the seam allowances would butt together nicely. I may have to break down and get some more of this cheery fabric. I'll see how I feel once I get the rest of the blocks together.
They won't put themselves together, so back to it.

Ramona, I saw this the other evening on my tiny little iPod while we were on a little weekend holiday away from life. I tried to comment but it wouldn't go anywhere...electronics make me frustrated! I love your colorful Granny block. Good thinking with triangles instead of the squares! (I cannot get past the word verification...this will be my 3rd try)
ReplyDeleteI love both the fabric and the pattern. I wanted to purchase some of the California Girl fabric when I first saw it and have also wanted to try the Granny Square blocks. I just can't let myself start something new right now. Your blocks will be beautiful.
